4 reasons to make your own lip balm

Skincare is an important part of everyone’s beauty routine. It empowers you as it makes you look fresh and healthy. You can also see it as a productive me-time activity on Sundays or a self care ritual any other day of the week. Most people love adding a touch of lip balm daily. It hydrates your lips and brings a cute touch to your face. Have you ever tried to make your own lip balm though? If not you should! This post will share with you why!

1. Avoid The Poison Kiss

In other words, make sure the composition of your lip balm is clean and not toxic. A study driven by the FDA in 2007 concluded that lipstick is a POISON KISS. They found that “61% of lipsticks contain lead, with levels ranging up to 0.65 parts per million. Lead-contaminated brands included L’Oreal, Cover Girl and even a $24 tube of Dior Addict.”

In case you wonder how bad lead can be, it has been linked to: learning, language and behavioral problems, fertility issues, hormonal changes, menstrual irregularities and puberty delays. And lead is only one of the nasty ingredients there are many others.

2. You Can Be Sure It Is Vegan

Most of the lip balms are animal tested and contain animal derived products unless you buy them vegan certified. Indeed they may contain lanolin which is an emollient derived from sheep wool. It is supposed to hydrate and soften lip products.

You can also find some glycerin as in many other makeup products. Glycerin is derived from animal fat.

Squalene is common in lip balms too. This chemical is extracted from shark’s liver.

Therefore, by making your own lip balm and choosing your ingredients wisely, you can make a vegan version of the product.

3. It Is Zero Waste

According to a study driven by Lush, one billion lipstick containers end up in landfill each year. Dramatic when we know that plastic pollution is a challenge for us and our environment. If you make your own balm, you can use the same container again and again. It is zero waste, eco-friendly and an easy change to save the planet at your own level.

4. It Is Fun

You can either make yours home which brings you creativity and self care energy or with friends or in a class to take part to a community. Let’s be honest, we all miss a community feelings nowadays even though it is vital for human beings.

If you choose to do it at home, we published a nice and easy recipe.

If you prefer going to a class, Google the ones around you. It is a pretty common event as more and more people ask for beauty DIY.

In both cases, it will be a fun experience and you will be very proud of yourself each time you apply your balm.
